My name is Juan Anguiano. I am a senior journalism student at Columbia College Chicago. I am addicted to the news. I live and breathe news in english and spanish. In a city like Chicago there is always something going on. I not only focus in on Chicago, but the world outside of Chicago. I am one of those people, those people that tell stories and tell them well, some may call them journalist.

The store with penguin outside on N. Damen Avenue

So as I begin to go through these things called final stories that are living nightmares to do, and I had to do a business profile on a candy business. I choose to profile Suckers Candies on 3200 N. Damen Avenue, the one with the penguin in front.

So my adventure begins in trying to get to this place on public transportation. Let me tell you that I am a true south sider, meaning that I get easily lost on the north side. For one the south side is very simple the streets run north south east and west, the north side is a jungle of streets. After I did my research I found that I was going to be taking the brown line to Suckers Candies, my favorite line on the CTA, because it’s clean. I only have gotten on it once and this was going to be my second time.

I went on the brown line on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the day where everyone was going home, leaving early from work or school, and here I am working on homework, but the news never stops right?

So I’m on the brown line and I’m going north and I recognize places that I know until I get to belmont after that I had no clue where I was or where I was going. I was terrified, terrified that the interview was going to go sour and terrified of getting lost. But luckily I got off on the right stop and walked in the right direction straight to the penguin.

When I walked into Suckers Candies it was everything I had imagined it to be. Very friendly, small, and all about candy. I sat back and watched young people and old buy this vintage candy that I haven’t seen in such a long time. Then the owner arrived.

It has been a long time since I met someone as nice as Beth Miller the owner of Suckers Candies. She was very nice and gave me a very good interview. She even gave me some of her premium chocolates, which I was NOT expecting at all! I must say they are the best I have had in a long time. So if your around North Damen in Roscoe Village visit Suckers Candies and tell them Juan sent you, just look for the penguin!
