Changing Face of Journalism
Being in journalism school I hear it over and over again, journalism is changing, journalism is changing. I see that it is. I think technology is taking over and changing the way we get our news. We don’t have to wait for the late night news, or tomorrow’s paper to get our news. In these days that we live in we can get the news to our emails that are linked to our phones, we can get online through our phones on the train ride home, we can get text alerts to our phone, or simply go online and see how news updated frequently online. As I have mentioned news is going online. Newspapers are slowly becoming a thing of the past and are now slowly moving online. News is now and now that we have technology to get the news out faster people want their news quicker and available when they want it.
The new journalist must be a jack of all trades. The newsroom and shrinking and as that shrinks so do the certain positions. Being out on the field, I have seen that newspaper reporters now not only report the news but photograph it as well. I think that journalist must be good at it all so that they can sell themselves as a multi-tasker that is good at all not just one. I think this is an interesting time to be a journalism student or even a journalist. Our industry is changing everyday as it changes we must adapt to the change so that we won’t be left behind with the pink slip.
My fears as a journalism student is not finding a job in the economy and in the changing world of journalism that we live in. That is why I am shaping my resume and my skills as a multimedia student. One that does not only know one type of media but all.
