The meaning of graduation...
30 years ago my father came to this country as an illegal immigrant. He spent two days waiting to cross over to the United States. In those two days he had a carton of milk and two pieces of bread to eat. He finally crossed over and eventually made it to Chicago.
A few years later my mother came to the US. On her way here her suitcase was stolen. My parents didn’t come with much to US....
New internship...new medium...Radio
Fuerza Informativa Azteca closed completely leaving me without an internship. I was offered an internship with Telemundo Chicago but had to decline becuase of the hours.
When I first started my college career I was a radio major. I always wanted to do a radio internship. When I contacted the radio internship coordinator at my school he told me that I couldn’t get one. Why? Becuase I needed...

My last story I produced for Azteca America
When I heard the story package for the day of February 5, 2009 I didn’t know that it was going to be my last package for my entire Azteca America internship.
I was told we were going to do a story on pawn shops. With the economy the way it is people are looking to pawn shops and cash for gold places for money. So we set out on a cold day in Chicago to Little Village to the Cash America on...

Bad day for Azteca America
I woke up today just like any other day. I was not expecting it to turn out the way it did.
I got off the train and sat down in the waiting area before I went into work. I called Viviana Avila to tell her something. When she answered she told me something that surprised me in a good way. She asked me if I had heard the news? I thought it was something late breaking that needed me to do. To my...

My first clip went M.I.A.
While I was in class today I realized that I had been published way before I thought I had been published.
Back when I was in 6th grade, around 10 years ago, there was a weekly newsletter that would circulate my nieghborhood. It had a lot of information on the neighborhood and what was going on in the nieghborhood. I remember it had a post and it said that if you wanted to write for it to call...

The store with penguin outside on N. Damen Avenue
So as I begin to go through these things called final stories that are living nightmares to do, and I had to do a business profile on a candy business. I choose to profile Suckers Candies on 3200 N. Damen Avenue, the one with the penguin in front.
So my adventure begins in trying to get to this place on public transportation. Let me tell you that I am a true south sider, meaning that I get...

Reporting Live from Grant Park...
Tuesday November 4th will go down in my history books. On this day not only was the first african american president elected, but it was a the longest day of my life.
My day started off at 5am. I had to go vote. I felt that if I didn’t vote I would feel left out. I was to be at my internship at 7am. I got ready and left my house at exactly 5:50am. When I arrived to my polling place there...

November 4th- The longest day of my life.....
I went into my internship one day at Azteca America, just an average old day right? Wrong, I was told by my boss, that they would need me to help them that day. Not only that but I, yes I Juan Anguiano will receive OFFICIAL, YES OFFICIAL press credentials! WHAT! No way! Me? The kid who went to school on the south side of Chicago? a farmer high school? an “artsy” college? son of Mexican...

Job Market...
So as the bailout plan got denied this week, I really started to think about the job market and the realities of me having a job right out of college like my older siblings. My siblings graduated when the market was healthy and i unfortunately will graduate when its at its worse. I have to think positive about this and with that positive thinking I should be able to land a job somewhere, whether...
6th grade newscast...
So I can not think of the worst group that I have worked with, but I do have one the I remember the most. So in 6th grade I was given an assignment to make a newscast with a group of classmates. Back then to us this was a huge assignment. One we all got nervous for and now those of us who did that project wish we did those kinds of things instead of 20 page papers on diabetes. We worked really...
Juan Anguiano Fuerza Informativa Azteca
So my internship with Azteca America channel 13 has been extremely hands on and very interesting. Lately I have been doing stand ups. Which are sometimes hard to do because you have to know what your saying and sometimes I don’t know what I’m saying. The lighting for a stand up has to be right, so for this they use a reflector, which beams sunlight straight into your face and makes you...
2 friends sharing the same dream...
I enrolled as a freshman at Columbia College Chicago right out of high school. I knew I wanted to have a career in the media and at the time, which was in 2005, I thought radio was my career path. In taking some classes in the radio department I liked it, but I did not see myself making a full long life career out of it. In 2006 I officially changed my major to journalism concentrating in magazine...
True Life: I'm an Intern
This summer I had the opportunity to intern with a TV Azteca, a national network with a news bureau here in Chicago. It has been one of the most hands on internships I have ever had and probably will ever have. When I started I did not realize that I would be out on the field with other professional journalist covering the same stories they were. I don’t remember if it was my second day or...
Changing Face of Journalism
Being in journalism school I hear it over and over again, journalism is changing, journalism is changing. I see that it is. I think technology is taking over and changing the way we get our news. We don’t have to wait for the late night news, or tomorrow’s paper to get our news. In these days that we live in we can get the news to our emails that are linked to our phones, we can get...
